Summer Social Boat Trip

Thank you to all the young planners that attended our annual SWYP Summer Social Boat Trip on a somewhat-autumnal mid-August evening! The event was sold out within 3 days of launching so we were excited to meet all those that managed to grab the sought-after tickets. We were lucky that the rain just about help off for the evening, which saw 40 young planners head off on the infamous Bristol yellow ferry boat from Temple Quay in Bristol along the Harbourside.

Fish and chips on board the boat made for a great start to the night followed by stops to explore some of Bristol’s great harbourside drinking establishments at the Cottage pub and the Grain Barge. Floating along in between was great perspective to see some of the regeneration that has occurred on former industrial land along the floating harbour as well as passing historic landmarks such as the SS Great Britain. The boat made for a good venue to help young planners mix and connect with other new members of the profession with many staying to socialise once back on dry land.

Bowling night

It was great to see so many of you at ‘Lanes’, Bristol for some friendly competition on the bowling alley, followed by pizzas and drinks. The social provided a good opportunity to meet other young planners within the South West region, and share your experiences in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
The mix of people working in local authority, consultancy and academia made for a great opportunity to discuss the different experiences people had gained. We look forward to seeing you at the future socials and CPD events we have lined up.
